The 48 Hour Film Project is a wild and sleepless weekend in which you and a team make a movie - write, shoot, and edit - in just 48 hours. On Friday night, teams draw a genre from a hat. They are then given a character, prop and line to include in their films. On Sunday night, in a wild dash to the drop off event, the film is turned in - and teams celebrate. The film is then screened at a local theater in front of an audience of filmmakers, friends and families.
We caught up with Artistes Ghia Koch-Human who co-starred in the winning film.
"I joined the Paw Patrol team on pretty short notice, thinking ‘oh I’d do something small, it’ll be chilled’… only to find myself playing the lead heroine, singer Paula Zwane, along with my original music being used in the score. I think everyone sets out to do these projects simply to have fun, sharpening skills under pressure. So it was absolutely mind blowing to wake up to the exciting news that our team won ‘Best film Award’ along with several other awards and that it was also nominated for best original music! I related to the character as anyone would in a marriage or relationship where parties have to meet each other half way. It’s hard to choose a favourite scene but what I loved was the fun had putting each scene on its feet and bringing it to life alongside really talented actors Johann Vermaak (who won best actor) and Chris Van Rensburg. The project proves that it’s possible to shoot a short under constraints whilst having a blast doing so, especially when working with the right energy and like-minded people. I would recommend every actor partake in this at least once, the pressure really challenges you, removing all doubt at that moment, reminding you how much fun doing what we do is. I can’t divulge too much information about the story as one of the prizes is for the film to go to Filmapalooza in LA next year to compete with other city winners from around the world. "
