WORMWOOD
Liza ScholtzWormwood, directed by Cameron Hadlow, follows Astrid, played by our actress, Liza Scholtz, a young woman grappling with the devastating loss of her partner, Dino (Garion Dowds), nearly a year after his death. On the eve of her sister's wedding, she misses her flight and decides to embark on an overnight drive to make amends.
Haunted by memories and feelings of guilt, Astrid's world spirals into chaos when a mysterious voice from her car radio distracts her, leading to a seemingly fatal car accident.
Thrust between a surreal liminal world and a repeating time loop, she reconnects with Dino's ghost, who reveals he has been unable to move on, waiting for her in the space between life and death. She is faced with a poignant choice to either join him or return to her reality. In order to choose, Astrid must confront her grief and the meaning of love and loss. As she navigates her feelings, Astrid ultimately seeks to find peace in her present life, even if it means letting go of the past. A visually stunning exploration of love, acceptance and letting go, Wormwood invites viewers on an emotional journey through grief and the ties that bind us.
Wormwood will be premiering at Fame Shorts Film Festival on 5 September 2025 at The Labia Theatre!
Liza has also been nominated as Best Actress at Fame Shorts Film Festival, for playing the role of Astrid.
