Disney’s “The Magic Box’” will not only be celebrating 100 years of storytelling, this year, but also marks an important milestone for the South African theatre industry.

For the first time, in a major Disney theatrical production, it will be an entirely South African cast and crew which gives South African actors, musicians and theatre professionals a platform on the global stage.

The ensemble cast, consisting of 26 South African performers, offers a multi-sensory experience showcasing their acting abilities, vocal abilities as well as dance talents, bringing the magic of Disney alive in a way never seen before in South Africa.

“The Magic Box” combines traditional theatre with state-of-the-art technology blending the classic Disney magic with a local touch.

A perfect blend of elaborate costumes, impressive visual effects, puppetry, and complex set designs will bring the renowned Disney characters and environments to life, creating a sensory experience like no other.

The music is another highlight to “The Magic Box” including 75 beloved Disney songs, as well as new, original compositions which have been especially composed for this production.

Disney’s ‘The Magic Box’ starts it’s run at The Opera House at the Artscape today, 9 October for a limited season and then transfers to Montecasino’s Teatro in Johannesburg from 22 November, before embarking on an international tour.

Our actress, Nicolette Fernandes, who was also the dance captain for the production, can be seen in this musical which is set to make you relive your favourite memories and experience laughter, nostalgia and a touch of Disney magic!
