Deuntjie is the first musical comedy ever presented at the Silwerskerm Festival 2024, presented in the Shotgun short film category, and was shot in only 4 days, under the mentorship of kykNET and M-Net .

The Shotgun Short film category is open to established filmmakers to demonstrate their skills with short films.

Deuntjie, played by Anja Taljaard, is a shy and conscientious girl. The film examines that little voice residing in every person’s head. The voice of Vera, played by Daneel van der Walt, a larger-than-life diva, accompanied by two flamboyant backing vocals, Moses (Caleb Felix) and Jacob (Edo Mostert). They perform and cause commotion in poor Deuntjie’s head and she starts having trouble distinguishing between reality and the voices in her head.

Deuntjie was written, produced, and directed by Adri Britz, and when asked in an interview what message she would like to convey to viewers her answer was as follows :

“For me, it is about the importance of finding the intrinsic value of your own voice through comedy and music.”
